“Just step out and be a little uncomfortable for a moment, and something bigger will come your way.”

Amanda’s journey from a stay-at-home mom to a pivotal member of the nVent team is a testament to the power of perseverance, continuous learning, and the embrace of new opportunities. Amanda is an Inside Sales Representative for our Enclosures business segment in Anoka, Minnesota who has been with us for over 13 years. Her story reveals the challenges she overcame and the breakthroughs she achieved, all while contributing significantly to nVent’s culture and success.

“Personal reasons initially drove me to nVent. I was a stay-at-home mom who needed an income to support our growing family,” Amanda begins. Her entry into nVent was facilitated by her husband’s connection to the company, striving to minimize daycare costs by working opposite shifts. What was intended as a temporary summer position evolved into a career supported by her passions. Amanda recalls, “It was only supposed to be for a summer, but I ended up falling in love with all that I did and learned.”

Starting in cooling assembly, Amanda quickly realized that her strengths lay elsewhere within the company. “I moved to a different area that was more my speed, and I quickly learned all the flow processes until I became an Andon – a position focused on fixing broken processes. It was fast-paced and worked my brain,” she explains. Her journey did not stop there; driven by a desire for more, Amanda ventured into learning Lean processes and eventually pursued further education through the company’s college reimbursement program. “Being rejected for some spots pushed me to go through the college reimbursement program and earn a degree,” she shares. This determination led her to graduate with an AAS degree from the local technical college, a stepping stone toward obtaining a Bachelor’s degree.

Amanda’s current role is a culmination of her diverse experiences at nVent. “A typical day for me is what I love about my job: it’s different every day,” she says. Her role involves close collaboration with various departments, handling modified orders, and continuously learning—factors that feed her insatiable curiosity and desire to grow.

Her contributions extend beyond her daily responsibilities. Amanda has been instrumental in nVent’s continuous improvement program, turning ideas into tangible improvements on the production floor. “My favorite thing to do was to take someone’s thoughts and ideas and bring that to fruition for them,” Amanda proudly states. Her efforts not only improved efficiency but also reinforced the open culture at nVent, where inclusion, innovation and employee input are highly valued.

This culture is further exemplified by nVent’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), including ADAPT (All Differing Abilities Partnering Together), of which Amanda is a part of the leadership team. The mission of the ERG is to create a culture where individuals of all differing abilities and their caregivers thrive through a sense of belonging and holistic support. Amanda’s involvement in ADAPT, particularly in the leadership capacity, has pushed her out of her comfort zone and into community engagement, mirroring her commitment to growth both within and outside the company.

Amanda’s story is a compelling reminder that embracing change, pursuing continuous learning, and stepping out of one’s comfort zone can lead to fulfilling career paths. “There’s something for everyone here. If something about the position you’re in now isn’t fitting you, just wait, there’s more,” she advises. Her journey at nVent is proof of the company’s supportive environment, where challenges are seen as opportunities for growth, and where every employee’s contribution is valued.

In Amanda’s words, “Just step out and be a little uncomfortable for a moment, and something bigger will come your way.” Her experience at nVent highlights the importance of resilience, the pursuit of personal and professional development, and the impact of a supportive workplace culture. Amanda’s story is not just her own; it’s a reflection of nVent’s commitment to empowering its employees, fostering innovation, and building a sustainable world through collaboration and continuous improvement.
